16.3: Why can't all workouts be like this?

It's that time again, another open workout come and gone! This week is an easy report because there was just not a change I was getting past a certain point.

Workout 16.3
7-min. AMRAP:
10 power snatches
3 bar muscle-ups

M  75 lb.     F 55 lb.

Scaled 16.3
Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 7 minutes of:
10 power snatches

5 jumping chest-to-bar pull-ups

Men use 45 lb.
Women use 35 lb.

I can easily do 55lbs snatch, no problem. What I cannot do is a bar muscle up. Even people that have been doing CrossFit for years struggle with this movement. It is an advanced movement. I am more of an intermediate CrossFitter. Therefore, it was not even an option for me.

So to accomplish the workout as needed and get in a good workout, I modified. I completed the 10 snatches at 55lbs then instead of attempting a bar muscle up, that I wouldn't get, I did 5 jumping chest-to-bar pull-ups. I got 5 rounds in 7 minutes. I was totally happy with that! I was even able to finish better than one of my friends who normally is quicker than me. Score.

In addition, to the open workout, Monday I did another awesome workout that I have to discuss! We did a partner WOD in the beginning. A 20-minute workout. It was:

Alternating with a partner -resting partner does V-ups
4 Minute row
3 Minute Row
2 Minute Row
1 Minute Row

Based on the amount of people in class, we had the girls paired up, which meant me and another girl did V-ups together. She didn't slow down....and therefore neither did I! It was rough, but the 3 of us got in 5800 meters rowing and 584 V-ups! Amazing, I ultimately pushed through well.

The second half of the workout was what I was looking forward to completing.

6 rounds each for time
20 Double Unders
10 Toes-to-Bar
5 Squat Cleans (95/135)
Rest 60 seconds

You can see I crossed out the rest because my coach didn't allow for a rest. I did modify, though. I completed the workout this way:

6 rounds each for time
60 Singles
10 Knee tucks
5 Squat Cleans (80lbs)

Alright let me explain my modifications. I suck at double-under's. I might be able to get 10-15 in on a good day. I just need to practice them more. So because of that, I did singles since this was supposed to be a quick workout.

Now for the knee tucks, this one was a completely relevant mod, and I was SO glad I did it. My coach said to do them and work on my kip. My kip is the reason my pull-ups and toes to bar struggle. So she helped me with one round. After that, I got the kip and did all 10 unbroken each round after! Nailed it.

I squatted all my cleans. Something I am working on since the open. Progress. It's all about progress.

I was able to complete 6 rounds in 12:47. I finished second. I was SO pleased with that. I finished second of the group and pushed hard. I thought I may have missed a round I did it so quick.

Why can't all workouts be like that?
