15.1 and 15.1a Completed!

My very first Open. My very first workout for my very first Open. That's what I did yesterday. And it was an amazing experience.

I am sure everyone who does the open for the first time feels this way. Or maybe they don't. But I know I did. I can tell you, I was nervous as hell.

I was warmed up for the workout and ready to judge as well. They needed someone to go in the first heat but I hadn't seen anyone do it. I did not want to be first. So I waited.
My official judging certificate!

I judged the first round and watched the second. Then the third heat was my turn. I told everyone while I was judging and watching, "It's just another workout". And it is. But it isn't. It is just another workout we're all doing. But it is also a measurement of our success to date. It's a way to track progress and see where we measure up.

Here was the workout

15.1
RX (I wish I could!)
10 Deadlift (115/75)
5 Snatch (115/75)

Scaled (This is what I did)
10 Deadlift (85/55)
5 Snatch (85/55)

9 Minutes, As Many Rounds/Reps As Possible (aka AMRAP)

Now first off, I think I could have done the weight of the RX workout BUT I cannot do toes to bar yet. My gymnastics abilities are far below my weight lifting abilities but I am working on it. So I did the scaled version. I was able to get 155 reps. I was amazed with myself! Now onto the second part of the workout.

15.1a
1 Rep Max Clean & Jerk
6 minute time cap.

I don't hate clean and jerk. But I am not as good at it as I am the beginning portion of the workout. My 1 rep max was 85. I was not planning for more than that. I ended up getting a PR (Personal Record) of 90lbs. Like I said, I am not as good at clean and jerk. But I did it.

I love that I amazed myself with what I could do. I love that I wasn't the worst but that I wasn't the best. And I love that I cannot wait till next Sunday when I can do it all over again with a brand new workout!
