16.4 Finally Seeing Some Improvement

We're nearing the end of the open now. The excitement has died down, and the athletes are starting to be ready for this to be over. I am already ready by week 4. However, this past week I was pretty worried. The workout shown below. I did RX so I am not even showing scaled.

Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 13 minutes of:

55 deadlifts
55 wall-ball shots
55-calorie row
55 handstand push-ups

Men deadlift 225lb and throw 20-lb ball to 10ft target
Women deadlift 155lb and throw 14lb ball to 9-ft target.

Of this workout, I was most concerned about the deadlifts. My one rep is 200lb. 155lb is hefty for 55 reps. I hear stories of people not even getting through the deadlifts. I checked the leaderboard on Beyond the Whiteboard and saw many people didn't get that far. Beyond the Whiteboard predicted a score of 83 for me, 55 deadlifts and SOME wall-ball shots. In my head, I wasn't even sure I would GET to the wall-ball. I completed the workout Friday night. Me and two of my teammates. I went into it hesitant, which could have ruined me. I took enough pre-workout to be bouncing off the walls for days. I was ready.

I knew I would do the deadlifts one at a time. No matter what. So I did. I started out at a great pace and before I knew it, about 5+ minutes in, I was done with the deadlifts. Crap, now I have to do wall-ball., my nemesis.

Last year's Open had a workout with wall-balls. I did terribly. (read here to refresh yourself). I still struggle with wall-ball. I probably always will. However, I no longer struggle with squatting low enough, but I do struggle to hit the target. I strategized and managed to knock off two at a time. Then when I get tired, I miss the target. So I let the ball drop and did them one at a time. I finished the wall-ball and managed to get one calorie on the row.

This wasn't a fantastic workout but it did show me I am better than I think I am sometimes. Last year's wall-ball was only 10lbs. This year I did it better with 14lbs. I am strong, I can lift a decent amount of weight for my size. I plan to keep going.
