One more thing off the bucket list

I don't know about everyone else but I have a bucket list. I am a very organized, list type of person (type A) therefore it's common for me to make lists for absolutely everything. My bucket list is not exception.

As I got into my 20s I realized there were things I wanted to make sure I did. Some were easy and some were not. It ranges from skydiving (accomplished June 2012 for my 30th year), to hang gliding (not yet done)
and scuba diving (accomplished May 2014 in Hawaii). Some things I have been able to do, others I plan to do and some are a far reach but I plan to try my hardest to get it all done. Oh, and it's not a stagnant list. Nope, I add to it when I see/find something I absolutely want to do.

In my mid-late 20s before my life was all out of whack (it's back on track now, not to worry) I trained 6-7 days a week and lost almost 30lbs. The picture to the right is of me during this time. I was in good shape. Not great. I wasn't muscular but I was lean, maybe even a bit thin. At the time I was striving for something entirely different than I am now. But I have always had one goal. It was a goal then, it is a goal now. I want to complete in a fitness competition.

Now back when I was thinner and lean, I thought I would want to do a Bikini Competition. These are the ones with women in fancy sparkly bathing suits with fake tans and lean muscle. Nothing too hard core. I still would love to have done that sort of competition however, roles have changes and now I CrossFit.

So for those of you that are not aware, there are local CrossFit competitions all over the region (Northern California Region) each month. Details for these can be found at WOD Rocket Some are team or partner oriented, some are scaled, etc. They are ALL different. At the beginning of May, there was a partner competition, Contra Costa Throw Down. Originally, I planned to do this event however, the date got changed and I couldn't compete due to a planned vacation. (Why does my sister need 3 birthday parties when she turns 30 is beyond me!)

Knowing I couldn't complete in Contra Costa Throw Down, I began to plan my next move. For another competition. And there it was, Rookie Rumble 8, June 14, 2015.

The requirements? No more than 1 year experience, give or take. Basically that's it. You do have to meet certain movement standards.

They are: dumbbell snatches 25lbs, shoulder to overhead 55lbs, box jumps 16", kettle bell swing 35lbs, cleans 55lbs, row, deadlifts 85lbs, goblet squat 35lbs.

I can easily accomplish these movements. My 1 RM for my deadlift alone is 200lbs. So I think I am good. And I get to accomplish my goal of competing in a completion.

It waited until the last minute to sign up but yesterday while working, I decided I better just do it before I lose my nerve. So I did it. (Ironically the deadline is May 22 so I was sort of last minute!)

And there it is, I am signed up for the Rookie Rumble 8. Myself and 2 other women from our box. And after this, I can check one more thing off my bucket list.

I hope I do well. I am not going to be amazing but I will be amazing to me. And that is what matters.

So, for the next 4 weeks, I'll be doubling up on my lifts. I really wish I had more time to work on...well everything! My clean, my snatch...all of it! But I have what I have to work with and I will make the best of it and work my hardest.

Stay tuned for details!
