I got there, just like she said I would

When I started CrossFit, I felt weak despite being in love with it. I was constantly reminded of how out of shape my body (and mind for that matter) had become. My coach constantly reminded me that after 6 months or so, I would get there. That it would all come together.

It was not that I did not believe her, but I couldn't see it and I had a hard time believing this for a long time. Workouts where I could only lift the bar, struggled with burpees or push ups were evident for longer that I wanted or hoped.

But slowly I started being able to add weight. My squats got lower, my chest got higher (not low enough, or high enough but still...). I finally started looking at the workouts and thinking that the scaled version was too easy. Although I wasn't quite at the middle range, I was SO close.

Two things happened. First about 3 weeks ago we had a benchmark girl. Helen. Which is:

Helen
3 rounds for time
400 m run
21 KB swings (1.5 pood aka 53lbs)
12 pull-ups

Because of where our box is located, we cannot always run. So we row instead. But for me, for the first time ever, I did a 40lbs kettle bell! It was hard, but not impossible and I did it.

So a week or so after that when I looked at the whiteboard. The workout was this:

6 rounds for time
5 Clean & Jerk
10 GHD sit ups
15 KB Swings
30 Double unders

The middle range, what our gym calls Advanced, was 100% doable for me it was 75 lbs for the C&J and 40lbs for the KB swing. I feared this would take me forever, but I wanted to do it anyway. And I nailed it. And it didn't take forever. Time was 25:26. Not bad if you ask me.

My coach always told me it would all come together. And it really did with that workout, as you can see. Ever since that workout, I do the middle of nearly every workout.

Finally, I climbed a rope, advanced to the next level of most workouts and started getting in a few double unders here and there.

I still have a ways to go. (Still trying to get that damn pull up!) But I feel stronger than I have in a long time. And summer is coming. I can't wait to show off my new arms and shoulders. Cuz they look GOOD!
