And then it happened....
15.4 came and went without much to note. I did well enough at the scaled version which included Push Press and Cleans since I couldn't do handstand push-ups yet.
But before 15.4 was a monumental event for me! I climbed the rope!
Now before I go into this, let me explain why this is SO big. As a kid everyone climbs the rope in PE class. I mean, as kids you just (apparently) instinctively know how to do that. I did not. Nor could I ever climb the rope. So I grew up thinking I was unable to climb a rope.
Fast forward 30 years (give or take). CrossFit involves rope climbs. They are 20ft high. As mentioned in one of my previous blogs, there are a few things I cannot do in CrossFit yet. Now, I have checked one of them off my list!
Knowing how far I have come in the 6 months I have been doing CrossFit, I was (relatively) confident I could probably climb a rope at this point. But that task is not in workouts often and therefore not something I typically practice. But Saturday, after taking Friday off, it was in the workout. 6 rounds for time: 1 rope climb, 6 thrusters, 12 box jumps.
After being shown a different technique for the rope climb, I made it 1/2 and 3/4 of the way during many parts of the workout. In the end, I wanted to finish the workout and take a moment. Then do my climb, because I knew I had it.
Turns out I totally had it. I made it 3/4 of the way and figured, what the hell, I can go all the way. My fellow CrossFitter was taking photos and started videoing when she realized I was going to make it to the top. So now, I have a video of the climb to the top!

I can tell you it was a magical feeling. I finally accomplished something I never thought possible. And I was stronger for doing it.
This coming weekend is 15.5 and although I am glad I got to participate in the open, the rope climb is my accomplishment above any other from the actual open.
I am already looking forward to how I can improve in the next year to better myself and complete these open workouts. I cannot wait to do my double days again and work towards competing.
Until next time CrossFit lovers....
